Harriet Miers Withdraws
Yes, that's right, Harriet Miers has withdrawn her nomination for Supreme Court Justice. This follows her second submission of the questionnaire that the Senators demanded. I'm sure that Ann Coulter is doing a jig right now. (or being very smug)
"Today I have reluctantly accepted Harriet Miers' decision to withdraw her nomination..."
--President Bush
Bush feels that she is withdrawing because the senators wouldn't be satisfied until they got the answers and documents that they wanted to see. This, Miers felt, would jeopardize her ability give the president adequate counsel. Those documents would not have to be released not only because of Executive privilege, but also because of attorney/client privilege.
"The senators would not be satisfied until they gained access to internal documents concerning advice provided during her tenure at this White House."

Miers will stay on as White House Counsel.
