Frameable Pieces and Upcoming Events

This is my second frameable piece. This one is called "Into Chautauqua Lake".
It was created using over 20 different Delica colors and consists of almost 4,300 beads.
I created and sold a cuff which featured these trees as well,
though it was based on a different photo.
Here are both frameable pieces..."Into Chautauqua Lake" and "Serenity".

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show
Sunday, July 21st at the Terry Macklin Center in Solon, OH from noon until 5:30pm
(Proceeds will benefit the Cleveland Animal Protective League)
and
Saturday, October 19th and Sunday, October 20th
at the St George's Fellowship Center in Fairlawn, OH from 11am to 5pm both days
(Proceeds will benefit Jade's No Kill Rescue)
I will also be participating in the Oddmall "Chrishanukawazmadan"
on Saturday, November 2nd at the Clarion Inn & Conference Center in Hudson, OH
from 10am to 6pm
After a lot of thought and consideration, I decided not to apply for Winterfair in Columbus this December. If, by some crazy chance I had been accepted, I would have to be prepared to spend three very long days on my own, as well as have enough pieces to last the entire event. An event of that length would require months and months of preparation and I have not had enough time this year with work and the shows I've already accepted. Next year I am going to plan out which events I would like to apply for and keep them to a minimum. I would also like to inquire about having my pieces in the Cleveland Natural History Museum gift shop or the Akron Art Museum and possibly at the Don Drumm Studio. It is still my goal to create art full time and I'm hoping the experience I've gained through these shows will be the catalyst to make that goal a reality.

Going to Try Something a Little Different

So, I've been creating the photo cuffs for a while now and at different shows I've had people ask if I would sell the photo with the cuff. I've decided that I can do that with all the cuffs created from my own photos. (The NASA photos are property of NASA.) Then I thought, why don't I create an actual picture, sort of a mini-mosaic of a photo? So, that's my next project. I'm going to create a 3"x 5" photo piece. I've decided to start with a more simple design, in that there isn't too much detail, just color and this is the photo I'm using as my inspiration...

It's going to be a lot of work, but I'm really excited about this project! Then I'm going to have to figure out how to display it!

Now Showing

I've now listed all the completed cuffs in my shop (http://arosebyname.etsy.com) I love how they've turned out and truly hope they spark some interest (and buyers!). I am incredibly nervous about Kent's Art in the Park Show next year, but excited, too.

I am currently working on a piece with an "ocean view" based on this photo from one of our trips to Florida. This one is from 1999!

And So It Goes...

I've finished the piece with the tree. It's based on this photo of a tree at the point where Goose Creek meets Chautauqua Lake in the Ashville area of New York. We love going there in the summer to rest and relax, if only for a day or two.  Luckily we have family who live there every summer, so we always have a place to stay!

I'm now working on another Deep Space piece, but will return to the lake photos when I've finished this one, I think.

Currently working on a cuff based on the sky in this photo. Such lovely colors! I'll post the photos of the piece when it's finished!

December 2010

This is crazy! We have had snowfall every day since December 1st! This type of snowfall is normal for oh, late January or February! Hopefully it will let up enough for me to do some Christmas shopping this weekend. This is what our yard looks like:

This is a pattern I beaded based on the accompanying photo. The colors were chosen by my program to best match the photo, but I'm not happy with the results. I'll be trying it again, but I'll change out the colors to make it closer to the photo.

The second pattern based on the next photo turned out better, though it went gray rather than the green/blue of the photos. I am also working on a series of patterns for cuffs based on textures and nature. I like how they're turning out and I think they'll be fabulous when they are beaded!

Starburst Snowflakes...

This is the latest cuff. It's Starburst Snowflakes and is 7" long and 1 1/2" wide with a three button and loops closure. The buttons have a pearl finish on the top and silver-tone shank. I love the matte cobalt blue with aurora borealis finish. Then I've added medium navy blue and a very pale blue along with a matte transparent white and crystal clear to create the stars.

I've created a lot of patterns lately, too. I've been fascinated with creating patterns from the photos from our Alaska trip. Then I went through photos from our trips up to Chautauqua Lake in NY and started a lot of patterns with those. Then I turned to the gorgeous flower photos I took this past spring and summer. And now I'm playing with natural patterns like those in quartz, marble and agate! It will take me forever to get through all these patterns, but it'll be a lot of fun! Currently, I am working on a pattern based on this photo:

Photos and Info

I know you're probably tired of all the flower photos, but I've been feeling "off" in regards to beading lately. I have started a new RAW cuff with the hope that it will turn out as I imagine for the BAO Challenge theme ("A Novel Idea"). And though it's going slowly, I am at least working on something! I have also decided to list the champagne cuff I originally made for myself. I will make another, somewhat smaller version for myself sometime later on.

On another note, after thinking it through then adding my favorite blogs to my Google Reader, I am going to drop Entrecard (pun intended!). It's been great for traffic, but I find that I don't have enough time for everything I normally do plus dropping from two different blogs. So, thank you to all my loyal droppers and I hope you'll stop by from time to time anyway or maybe even add me to your reader! I'm hoping with the little extra time I'll have, I'll be able to post more regularly!

Calling All Angels

I've gotten another treasury at Etsy and this one I've called Calling All Angels because I just love the photos of the cemetery angels and the heaven photos, too. They are all so beautiful!

Latest Piece

Here's my latest bracelet. I've called this one Snow and Ice and I've included a photo of my backyard to show you where the inspiration came from!
