Still Here

So many things going on in the "real world" that I haven't had a chance to post or even fully read my emails. It's rough, but hopefully life will settle down a little bit soon and I can get some computer time in....not to mention beading time!

Grandma Got the Bracelet

Well, I finished the cuff bracelet (as seen in the previous post "A Work In Progress") and ended up giving it to Grandma for Mother's Day. She absolutely loves it and it's a rosy-pink, which is her favorite color. For being my first attempt at an embellished netted cuff, it wasn't bad, but I wasn't completely happy with the end result. I'm going to try the technique again and see if I can't get a better tension on it.

Currently I'm working on a twisted herringbone necklace, but I've been sick this week and working on it and being on the computer just hasn't been great for my head! I'll hopefully have some "in progress" photos later this weekend.

A Work in Progress

After almost two solid months without being either A) able to or B) inspired enough to bead, I've finally started a new piece. This is something new for me. It's a net cuff with Swarovski pearl and Swarovski crystal embellishments. Let me know what you think...

No Beads, But How About Food?

Well, I haven't been able to bead lately, but we had a progressive dinner last night and my assignment was two of the appetizers. One was Lemon Chicken kabobs, which were fairly simple to make, but the other was Greek Croustade. If you've never worked with phyllo dough, let me just say, it is an instrument of the devil! I have never been so frustrated. I was supposed to fold each sheet into thirds and create a series of spokes, then put the spinach and cheese filling in the center, pull the ends of the spokes up and twist them into rosettes. As you can see, that particular approach didn't work. It turned out fine without the "glamour", but it always ticks me off when I can't make it look like it's supposed to! Everyone enjoyed it though, so I suppose, in the end, it was still a success.

Attention Span of a Gnat

That's how I've been feeling lately. Every time I think about starting a new bead piece, I think on it for a few minutes, get a vague idea of what I might want to do and then my mind wanders to something else altogether and I'm off on some tangent. I have a severe case of scatterbrain! I sure hope I can resolve this soon because I really NEED to create something new!
